ScolIA: a school app where the child never writes

ScolIAEducationSwiftUI

Why a school app?

The starting point comes from international rankings: school is good at teaching how to apply a method, much less at using it somewhere else. Yet that is what matters most.

ScolIA came from there, built first for my own family: an iPad app for primary school with three ambitions at once.

  • The French curriculum, so nothing is missed
  • The level of the best international schools (Singapore, UK, IB), for a child who might follow their parents abroad
  • Future skills: money, code and AI, engineering, critical thinking

The rule that changed everything

The first version, made in September, had a major flaw: most lessons asked the child to write on paper. On an iPad, that makes no sense.

So I rebuilt it with one simple rule: the child never writes. Everything is done by touch, with 16 exercise types: drag, color, connect, order, place on a number line.

A lesson in five steps

Every lesson follows the same path and always ends with a transfer challenge: using what you just learned in a new situation. Share a pizza in fractions, then use the same fractions in a challenge set in Marrakech.

After that, endless practice with spaced repetition brings each notion back at the right time.

Content, reviewed and reviewed again

Today: 117 lessons, about 1,400 exercises, 11 subjects. Every lesson was written, reviewed, audited by two readers, then passed to a checker whose job was to find mistakes. More than 550 fixes in total.

To be honest: no human teacher has reviewed it yet. That is the next important step.

What does not change

  • 100% offline
  • No account, no ads
  • A parent space to follow progress
The long-term goal: an app polished enough to aim for the Apple Design Awards.
